I have been on a “no chemical” kick recently, and have been looking for safe, effective and chemical free cleaning products! Here is a recipe for a great dishwasher detergent! I have been using this for the past week, and my dishes have been coming out clean and sparkly. I can’t tell a difference in the clean dishes between my using this and my chemical full pods! I will say, that my kitchen smells oh so much nicer when the dishwasher is running using this than my detergent pods. Enjoy!
2 cups washing soda
1 cup baking soda
1 cup citric acid
1/2 cup kosher salt or sea salt
1 teaspoon castile soap (I used Dr Bronner’s lavendar scented)
10 drops of thieves essential oil
10 drops of lemon essential oil (I used a citrus blend)
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl
mix in castile soap and the thieves and lemon/citrus essential oil
Stir by hand until the soap and essential oils are mixed throughout. After mixing mine together I was worried it seemed that it was clumping and that it might now stay a powder–don’t worry! It did clump a little bit, but was definitely still a powder! Just make sure you keep it in a dry place and don’t add any water–or you will have a big hard rock of detergent.
